EuroBSDcon FreeBSD Developer Summit 2007

For the EuroBSDcon 2007 devsummit we have decided to do things a little bit different from usual.

A fair bit different actually.

Or to be quite honest, radically different.

For one thing, the devsummit is after EuroBSDCon 2007, so that participants who are not involved in, or participates in, the conference tutorials get a more compact travel schedule:

Sep 12 Wed Tutorials
Sep 13 Thu Tutorials
Sep 14 Fri EuroBSDCon
Sep 15 Sat EuroBSDCon
Sep 16 Sun Legoland
Sep 17 Mon Devsummit
Sep 18 Tue Devsummit

Second, the venue, "Græsrodsgården" is located waaaay out in the countryside, far away from distractions and civilization.

Third, we need to bring sleeping bags (or similar).

Fourth, we'll cook our own food and share other chores (cleaning, shopping, garbage etc)

So to be honest, it will be much more of a hackathon than a devsummit.

And the old school buildings are perfect for that, plenty of rooms and corners, WLAN and a nice countryside for taking a walk while hashing things out.

Depending on the number of participants, there may be a cover-charge to cover food, etc.

From Copenhagen to the site monday morning:

Train from Copenhagen Central station to “Svebølle”:

RE1529, direction “Kalundborg” Departure 8:53, Arrival 10:06 Price is 97 DKR per person, 77 DKR on a “ten-trip card” shared by 10 persons. Taxi from Svebølle to Græsrodsgården. Approx 150 DKR for a 8-person car.

Going back to Copenhagen will follow the same route, only in reverse tuesday after dinner.

Those who leave earlier can find connections on www.rejseplanen.dk can supply routes and connections. For græsrodsgården, enter “Bregninge (VT)” in the departure field.

The FreeBSD Foundation will be managing travel grants for FreeBSD developers wishing to attend the summit. Due to a limited travel budget, they would prefer you first speak to your employer or home organization, and turn to the FreeBSD Foundation as a last resort. If you will need financial support for travel, make sure to apply well in advance using the Travel Grant Application. Make sure to complete the justification section with due attention.

The hackathon is in principle open to everybody, but don't expect to sit through a day full of lectures, this is about using keyboards and screens, not about staring at them.

More details as they become available.

  1. Will the developers sleep at Græsrodsgården on Sunday night? I need this info because I won't attend the conference and will arrive in Copenhagen on Sunday late in the morning / afternoon and need to arrange my accomodation for Sunday night. (MatteoRiondato)
  1. If the developers will sleep in Copenhagen on Sunday night, will there be an organized bus from there to Græsrodsgården ?
  1. Where can we find info about buses or trains from Græsrodsgården to Copenhagen? I will sleep in Copenhagen on Tuesday night, but need to know how to get there from Græsrodsgården. (MatteoRiondato)
