Moderating
General
Catalyse
Exercise the principle of least punitive action commensurate with issue/behaviour
Where it makes sense:
remind > ask > warn > quiet > ban
(where
>
means
better-than
and/or
before
).
Least punitive action assumes credible, good-faith actors. It does not include obvious spamming, disruptive or abusive behaviour.
Use +o as a last resort. Use chanserv/bot commands where available, unless doing so is less transparent (who did what).
Do not idle with +o. Drop +o as soon as it is no longer required.
Taking Action
Provide reasons/rationale with all actions
Comment on the action in the moderators/moderation channel
All bans/quiets must be timed (use !btset with eir)
All actions are timely, reasonable and appropriate.
If unsure of a situation or course of action, ask publicly in #freebsd-irc, or privately in #freebsd-ops)
