Channel Moderators and Moderation Guidelines

  • Are Catalysts.
  • Are servants of the community.
  • Are exemplars and stewards of community standards and improvement.
  • Demonstrate the ability to influence others positively.
  • Can demonstrate regular and consistent channel activity.
  • Can demonstrate understanding of freenode and its channel/network services.
  • Exercise the principle of least punitive action
    • Where it makes sense: remind > ask > warn > quiet > ban (where > means better-than and/or before).
    • Least punitive action assumes credible, good-faith actors. It does not include obvious spamming, disruptive or abusive behaviour.
    • Use +o as a last resort. Use chanserv/bot commands where available, unless doing so is less transparent (who did what)
  • Do not idle with +o
  • Provide reasons/rationale with all actions (eg: Annotate quiet, ban reasons with eir, add extra detail in #freebsd-irc, etc).
  • Any actions taken are timely, reasonable and appropriate.
  • If/when you're unsure of a situation or potential action, ask/discuss it.
  • How
  • When
  • Agreement
  • Trial (Period)
