The hackathon will be hosted by [[https://57north.org.uk|57 North Hacklab]]. ===== Logistics ===== The hackathon will run for the 4 days, if there is interest some cultural activities can be arranged by the host for the Sunday. October is a great time to see Scotland, while it might rain, it might not. ==== Getting to Aberdeen ==== Aberdeen has a well connected International Airport with frequent routes via AMS, CDG and LHR. Aberdeen is Europes busiest heliport if you wish to take your helicopter. There are frequent rail services to Aberdeen, with the overnight Caledonian sleeper an option for connections to London. ==== Getting around Aberdeen ==== Aberdeen has frequent bus services, the venue is on a major bus route (bus stop is right by the Hackerspace) and is close to many other bus routes. Aberdeen is a very walkable city. ==== Accommodation ==== tbd ===== Hacking Projects ===== It's good to have some idea or unfinished project to bring to the hackathon. This avoids spending a whole day to come up with an idea. This is not a strict requirement, but it helps to get you started once we're settled in. Maybe the following list can inspire you to either join an already existing project (if feasible) or add one of your own. It is also useful if you want to bring some equipment (i.e. embedded boards and other hardware) to make a note of it here to avoid extra luggage. ^ Who ^ Project ^ Short description ^ Notes ^ | bcr | Extend ZFS permission delegation in handbook | Add examples on how to delegate ZFS permissions to another user or group to the handbook | | | bcr | Add mentor best practices to committers guide | Add some best practices for mentors to when mentoring to the committers guide. A short list exists, figure out if it is worth its own section. | | | everyone | C/Kernel hacking crash course for the uninitiated | Guide someone clueless (bcr volunteering) with basic programming knowledge through the process. Filling knowledge gaps, missing tools, books to read, etc. Goal is to document the process of becoming a port/kernel hacker to make it easy for someone to get started using those notes. | | | rene | Grim Reaper Improvements | finish up some unfinished business in the grim reaper script that I run the first Monday of each month. | committed to portmgr repo | | rene / ? | port Tor browser | investigate if porting over the Tor browser to %%FreeBSD%% is feasible. On Linux it installs in the home directory of the user, perhaps for privacy reasons. Use www/firefox-esr as a starting point, as Firefox ESR is what Tor browser is built upon. | | ===== Travel coordination / Attendee list ===== //(Please keep sorted alphabetically by last name.
