irc:bots

This is an old revision of the document!

The project maintains a number of IRC bots designed to improve the user/community experience on IRC. At present, they are only deployed on the freenode IRC network.

Official FreeBSD IRC bots always have the freebsd/bot/<nickname> hostmask cloak, with a link in their /whois information pointing to this page.

  • [TinHead] New issues created in Bugzilla are announced in #freebsd-bugs to assist triage.
  • [VimDiesel] URL title “snarfer”. Returns the <title> of URL's observed in channel. #freebsd-social
  • Bugzilla Issue Information
    • Returns (id, title, url) to the channel (or user) when it sees an Issue ID (~ <bug|issue|pr>[ ][#]<integer>) in a message
    • Returns (id, title, url) to the channel (or user) for the !issue <ID> command
  • Returns man(ual) page information to the channel (or user) for the !man <query>[sektion] command

TinHead is the nickname of the “development” instance of IRC bot code used for testing. It is experimental in nature, and currently active in #freebsd-bugs and #freebsd-labs.

Other registered bot names:

  • VimDiesel
  • MattDaemon (not yet deployed)

Discussion, development and testing takes place in #freebsd-labs
