Timeline:

• April 3: Student application period open
• May 4: Successful applications announced
• May 4: Community bonding starts
• May 30: Start of coding
• June 26-July 24: Mid-term Evaluations
• August 21-August 29: Final Evaluations; students submit code to Google.

FreeBSD maintains a page containing project ideas suitable for Summer of Code at SummerOfCodeIdeas, and a more generic IdeasPage. Students are welcome to take on projects from that page, or produce their own project ideas and plans.
