FreeBSD has several source code repositories:

• “src” is used for the system sources, including Kernel and Userland. It uses Subversion.
• “doc”, “www”, and “ports” repositories use CVS.
• Perforce is used for experimental work by FreeBSD developers.
• There also exists a Subversion server, specifically for SummerOfCode use.

For SummerOfCode, students can choose to use either the FreeBSD Perforce system, or the Summer Of Code system. If you are unsure as to which to go for, please discuss with your mentor.
