This is an old revision of the document!

FreeBSD has several source code repositories:

  • “src” is used for the system sources, including both Kernel and Userland. It uses Subversion.
  • “doc”, “www”, and “ports” repositories currently use CVS, although efforts are underway to also move these to Subversion.
  • Perforce is used for experimental work by FreeBSD developers.
  • There also exists a Subversion server, specifically for SummerOfCode use.

For SummerOfCode, students can choose to use either the FreeBSD Perforce system, or the Summer Of Code Subversion system. If you are unsure as to which to go for, please discuss with your mentor. It is likely that most students will opt for Subversion.
