This is an old revision of the document!

The project maintains a number of IRC bots designed to improve the user/community experience on IRC. At present, they are only deployed on the freenode IRC network.

Official FreeBSD IRC bots always have the freebsd/bot/<nickname> hostmask cloak, with a link in their /whois information pointing to this page.

  • New issues created in Bugzilla are announced in channel. #freebsd-bugs
  • URL title “snarfer”. Return the <title> of URL's observed in channel. #freebsd, #freebsd-social
  • Return man(ual) page information to the channel (or user) for the !man <query>[sektion] command. #freebsd
  • Bugzilla Issue Information
    • Returns (id, title, url) to the channel (or user) when it sees an Issue ID (~ <bug|issue|pr>[ ][#]<integer>) in a message
    • Returns (id, title, url) to the channel (or user) for the !issue <ID> command

VimDiesel is the nickname of the “production” instance of IRC bot code.

TinHead is the nickname of the “development” instance of IRC bot code used for testing. It is experimental in nature.

Other registered bot names:

  • MattDaemon (not yet deployed)
  • If you have (geeky, witty, !actor) ideas for bot nicknames, let us know!

Discussion, development and testing takes place in #freebsd-labs
